CDC revised coronavirus guidance to state that coronavirus can spread through airborne transmission.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) revised coronavirus guidance to state that coronavirus can spread through airborne transmission. CDC guidance states, “it can linger in the air for minutes to hours” and “may be able to infect people who are further than 6 feet away from the person who is infected or after that person has left the space”. The CDC includes evidence that under certain conditions, individuals infected with COVID-19 seem to have infected people more than 6 feet away. The CDC states that “these transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces the had inadequate ventilation.” and that sometimes the infected individual was breathing heavily, for example, while singing or exercising.

The CDC says that under the circumstances, the amount of infectious smaller droplets and particles produced by the infected people became concentrated enough to spread the virus to others. The people infected were in the same space during the same time or shortly after the person with COVID-19 had left. The CDC’s recommendations to protect yourself and others remain the same; stay at least 6 feet away from others, wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose, wash your hands frequently, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces often, and stay home when you feel sick. Finally, the CDC states that one must “ensure indoor spaces are properly ventilated by bringing in outdoor air as much as possible.”
